ALERT: Special Session On School Choice Starting October 9th!

October 3, 2023
Topic: Legislature
Governor Abbott announced this week that he would call a third special session starting October 9th to empower parents to make the best educational choice for their children. During the 88th Regular Session of the Texas Legislature, numerous school choice bills were proposed by lawmakers, however, proceedings fell flat when Senate Bill 8, the leading school choice policy proposal, did not pass the Texas House.

Texas Values policy team members testified in support of Senate Bill 8 during the regular session, and have been a leading voice for empowering parents against “woke” indoctrination and expanding education freedom for all Texas students.

A Texas House select committee recently completed a study on school choice which recommended a smaller-in-scale program prioritizing high-need students. The Senate, on the other hand, seems poised to propose a more universal program; which is also the preference of the Governor who has promised to veto any diluted solution.

Texas Values will continue to advocate for putting students, parents, and educational freedom first during the upcoming special session.  Stay update-to-date by following our email alerts, or get text alert by texting “txvalues” to 797979.
