Texas Values Action Makes Staff Announcement for 2017 Session
Jonathan Saenz, President and Attorney for Texas Values Action, announced a new addition to the team. Andy Hogue, a veteran journalist and political communicator, will be joining Texas Values Action as Communications Director.
Hogue, who makes frequent appearances on television and radio shows in the Austin area, brings to the table 10 years of political reporting experience as well as five years of working with the press in a media relations capacity. A native of North Texas, Hogue moved to Austin in 2008 to write for The Lone Star Report, specializing in transportation and health care policy as a credentialed member of the Texas Capitol Press Corps. He previously was assistant editor of the Gainesville Daily Register in North Texas and worked the city beat. His writing has appeared in numerous national and international media outlets, and has twice made the front page of The Drudge Report.
He later became publicist for Texas Workforce Commissioner Tom Pauken, helping to craft public school reform legislation, and Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, working with the Texas Veterans Land Board and the Alamo on major expansion projects. In the 84th Legislative Session, Hogue was the House floor policy analyst for Texas Public Policy Action. He has served as Communications Director for the Travis County Republican Party since 2011.
His most recent foray was Constituent Liaison and Publicity Director for Austin City Councilman Don Zimmerman, where he managed the city’s first and only district satellite office.
A 2003 graduate of the University of North Texas, Hogue studied journalism, political science, and graphic design, where he also served as Chief Justice of the student Supreme Court and was active with student ministry. He also has a keen interest in theology and is involved in planting neighborhood-based churches and Bible studies in the North Austin area.
He is married to Katrina, his wife of three years and mother to his three young children.
“Andy Hogue is one of the most well-known and experienced conservative communication specialists in and around the Texas Capitol. We are blessed to now have him as part of our team,” said Jonathan Saenz, President of Texas Values Action.
