It Happened Again! Young Woman Startled by Man in Women’s Restroom at Texas Capitol, Texas Values Staff Member!

March 11, 2025
Topic: Legislature

A few weeks ago, we emailed you about a young female staffer who was approached by a man in the women’s restroom at the Texas Capitol. Well, today the same thing happened to our own Strategic Policy Associate Megan Benton, when she went to the women’s restroom after testifying on a bill at the Texas Capitol.

Megan went to the restroom and saw the belongings of a man, identifying as a woman, on the bathroom floor. She noticed the belongings looked similar to the bag a man was holding who had testified earlier against a bill preventing sex change on birth certificates. Megan immediately exited the restroom and waited to enter with another female to feel safe. That’s when she was startled when she saw it was that same man washing his hands at the sink. You can watch Megan tell her story here.

This is the second time in a number of weeks that a young woman working at the Capitol has been startled and surprised by a man in the women’s restroom. This is a demoralizing and dangerous circumstance that can happen to ANY woman or little girl that comes to visit the Texas Capitol. If you are a woman who has had a man enter your restroom, shower room or locker room at the Texas Capitol or at any public or government building, please let us know! Send us an email with the details at info@txvalues.org.

We believe these men are intentionally going into women’s restrooms to scare and startle women and to convince you this is okay. It’s Not!

It’s Spring Break. Do we want Texas girls learning about Texas History during their break from school to have to encounter grown men in the bathroom at our Texas Capitol?

This is why we need common sense legislation that clearly defines “male” and “female” and protects women’s private spaces. The Texas Woman’s Privacy Act HB 239 by Representative Valoree Swanson has 77 co-authors.

Over the weekend, HB 239 received support from Governor Greg Abbott.

Lt Governor Dan Patrick recently commented on what happened to the Capitol staffer and said that men do not belong in the women’s restrooms. He agrees that this CANNOT happen at the Texas Capitol!

However, we still need The Texas Woman’s Privacy Act to receive a hearing in the House or the Senate. Please contact your House member and ask them to support HB 239 by Representative Valoree Swanson. Also ask your State Senator to support SB 240 by Senator Mayes Middleton.

The “Left” has created a dangerous environment for women to where they cannot use the restroom at the Capitol. This is the session where we finally protect women’s sex separated spaces in state law!
