Texas Values Action is excited to release its second-ever legislative scorecard based on the recently concluded 85th Texas legislative session and special session.

The 2017 Faith and Family Scorecard is the only accountability tool of its kind in Texas, as it measures how state legislators performed on a variety of issues impacting religious freedom, marriage and family, life, and privacy, as well as on other important pro-family reforms.

“The Faith & Family Scorecard is a critical education and accountability tool for Texas voters to see where legislators stood on the values that matter to Texans,” said Jonathan Saenz, Texas Values Action President. “The 85th Legislature saw progress made in protecting the religious liberty faith-based child welfare providers, but obstruction by Speaker Joe Straus, Rep. Byron Cook and others in House leadership on several important matters – most notably the Texas Privacy Act to keep men out of little girls’ showers, restrooms, and locker rooms. While House and Senate members return home to their districts, now is the time for Texans to hold their elected officials accountable for their record and work to ensure that the values of faith, family, and freedom are more strongly upheld now and in the next legislative session.”

Legislators that scored 90 percent and above are recognized as Faith & Family Champions. In addition, Honorable Mention designation is given to select legislators for special leadership on core issues.

Other Notable Outcomes: Reps. Jason Villalba (48%) and Sarah Davis (3%) received the lowest scores for House Republicans and several House Democrats tied for the lowest score (0%).  Democratic Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr. received the “Honorable Mention” recognition for his support of the Texas Privacy Act, and legislation supporting religious liberty, life, and school choice.
