Save Chick-fil-A: Major Religious Freedom Hearing at Texas Capitol on April 17

April 12, 2019

On Wednesday, April 17, we are asking all Texans to join us for Save Chick-fil-A Day to support religious freedom legislation at the Texas Capitol. As you have likely heard, the San Antonio City Council recently banned a Chick-fil-A because of its Christian values. No Texas business or individual should ever be punished for practicing their faith. It’s time to make our voice heard!

Here is what you need to know to make a difference on April 17:

  • The Texas House State Affairs Committee will be taking public testimony on both the Free to Believe Act (HB 1035 by Rep. Bill Zedler) and the First Amendment Defense Act (HB 3172 by Rep. Matt Krause) at the Texas Capitol on April 17. These religious freedom bills would protect businesses, like Chick-fil-A, and individuals, like cake baker Jack Phillips, from religious discrimination by the Government.
  • The committee will also been taking testimony on an extremely dangerous #BanTheBible bill, HB 244 by Rep. Jessica Farrar, which would add special protections based on “sexual orientation and gender identity” (SOGI), trampling the religious freedom rights of every Texan that believes in the biblical truth about marriage and sexuality.
  • With 2 important #SaveChickfilA religious liberty bills and a #BanTheBible bill all being heard on April 17, this will be the most important hearing of the session. We need to flood this hearing with support for HB 1035 & HB 3172 and opposition to HB 244. That includes public testimony, if you are willing, and signing in to register your support. Our team will be on site to help guide you through this process and you can email us for help.
  • The House State Affairs Committee will be taking public testimony on these bills and more in room E2.014 at the Texas Capitol at 10:30 AM or upon final adjournment on Wednesday, April 17. Even if you cannot stay for the full hearing to testify, which could go very long, you can sign in to register your support.

If you can’t make it to the Texas Capitol on April 17, please visit your local Chick-fil-A and share #SaveChickfilA on social media.  Please visit SaveChickfilA.com to take action with your Texas elected officials and RSVP and share our Save Chick-fil-A Day Facebook event.
