There is just over one week left in the First Special Legislative Session called by Governor Greg Abbott, and we need your immediate activism to ensure privacy legislation is passed to keep men out of our girls’ showers, changing rooms, and bathrooms.

While the Texas Privacy Act already passed the Senate last month, the Texas House has refused to take any action on the legislation thanks to obstruction tactics of House Speaker Joe Straus and the House State Affairs Committee, Chaired by Byron Cook.

To continue to build momentum for the House version of privacy legislation, HB 46 by Rep. Ron Simmons, we need you to immediately call your State Representative and urge him/her to sign on to HB 46 as a co-author. Co-authoring HB 46 helps demonstrate support for protecting privacy and helps show that the legislation has support needed to pass the House floor. Click here to find out who represents you in the Texas House.

PLEASE TAKE THESE THREE ACTION STEPS:

1. If your House member has not co-authored HB 46, please immediately call and ask him/her to request that Rep. Simmons add them as a co-author. With the urgency of this issue, we are asking House members to sign on to HB 46 by end of the day Thursday, August 10.

2. If your House member has already co-authored HB 46 (see list here), please call and thank him/her for supporting legislation to protect privacy. Ask your member to publicly demand that House leadership allow HB 46 to be heard on the House floor.

3. After calling your House member, please also call Rep. Tan Parker, Chairman of the House Republican Caucus, at (512) 463-0688 and kindly ask that he publicly demand that HB 46 be heard on the House floor as the legislation is supported by more than a majority of his caucus.
