Born Alive Infant Protection Act Signed into Law

Austin, Texas – Yesterday Governor Greg Abbott signed HB16, the Texas Born Alive Infant Protection Act into law. The bill is a response as people around the country listened in shock to the actions of New York’s legislature and the comments of Virginia Governor Ralph Northam about abortions up to the moment of birth, and even after birth. Children who survive an abortion should be, and now will be, protected and given lifesaving care in Texas.

This legislation is similar to a bill Congressional Republicans have tried to get a vote on over 50 times but have been blocked by Democrats. With the signing of this bill into law, Texas once again leads by example.

Texas Values Action, partnered with an abortion survivor, Gianna Jessen, to help get her message out by media and social media when she testified in favor of HB 16 before the Texas House Committee on Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence.

Nicole Hudgens, Senior Policy Analyst for Texas Values Action said “With the signing of this law, Texas has drawn a line in the sand against the barbaric infanticide policies of other states. Every life is precious and deserves to be protected. We thank Gov. Abbott for signing this common-sense bill into law and for the hard work of Rep. Leach and Sen. Kolkhorst for their leadership on this issue.”

This is the fourth legislative session in a row the Texas Values and Texas Values Action team have helped lead the passage of pro-life law in Texas.
