Republican Peter Flores Wins Historic Texas Senate Race

September 21, 2018
Topic: Elections

In a historic Texas victory that reverberated around the country, pro-family Republican Peter Flores defeated liberal Democrat and former Congressman Pete Gallego in the Texas Senate District 19 Special Election on Tuesday.

The race fills the seat of disgraced State Senator Carlos Uresti (D) who resigned after being convicted of multiple counts of felony fraud. The district, which includes parts of San Antonio and 17 counties, is heavily-Hispanic and has been held by Democrats since 1879.

Flores’ victory by a strong six point margin has complicated much of the talk by Democrats and media elites of a “blue wave” sweeping Texas and gives Republicans an opportunity to hold 21 of 31 Texas Senate seats in the 2019 session. Texas Values Action was proud to have endorsed Flores and produce the most widely used Voters Guide in the race.

As we stated in our endorsement announcement:

“Peter Flores is a pro-family, conservative leader that Texans in Senate District 19 can count on to stand up for religious liberty, marriage & family, and life. Texas Values Action is proud to join other pro-family and pro-life leaders like Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, and US Sen. Ted Cruz in endorsing Peter Flores for the Texas Senate.”
