Texas GOP Executive Committee Must Remain Faithful to Principles & Oppose LGBT Group

January 29, 2020

Log Cabin Republicans, a pro-LGBT advocacy group, are seeking full recognition and affiliation with the Republican Party of Texas (RPT). Two years ago the Log Cabin Republicans unsuccessfully sought to have a booth at the Texas Republican Convention. Texas Values Action and other grassroots leaders urged the State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) to not allow pro-LGBT groups at the convention.

The fight to maintain the integrity of the RPT Platform with respect to its planks and principles on Biblical marriage, homosexuality, and human sexuality is even more serious this time. Principle 6 of the RPT Platform says Texas Republicans believe in “Self-sufficient families, founded on the traditional marriage of a natural man and a natural woman.” Planks 14, 121, 240, 241, 256, 275, 310, 311, 312, 313, 316, 317, 318, 319 all reaffirm this truth.

The SREC Auxiliaries and Coalitions Committee will be voting on the Log Cabin Republicans application this Friday, January 31 and the full SREC body is expected to vote on Saturday, February 1.

If accepted, the Log Cabin Republicans will seek to conform the Republican Party to its LGBT agenda and dismantle traditional family principles and values within the platform, similar to what LGBT activists have done to the Democratic Party. The Republican Party of Texas should not create an official affiliation with any organization whose primary mission is in direct conflict with core principles of the party.

Compromising or weakening the RPT’s commitment to Biblical marriage and sexuality will inevitably lead to the erosion of religious liberty and family values in the State of Texas. If the Republican Party of Texas is willing to abandon this foundational principle, and the people of faith who believe it, who will be left to support it?

Texas Values Action encourages our supporters to call and email their SREC members today and urge them to be faithful to the RPT Principles by voting NO on approving the Log Cabin Republicans affiliate status and against allowing them to have a booth at the Texas Republican Convention.
